Privacy policy

Last updated 31 October 2026

This policy explains how the Snowbell app for iPhone and Android ("Snowbell", "the app") handles information. Snowbell is published by Rod Hill, trading as Caversham Digital, United Kingdom ("we", "us").

The short version

Snowbell has no account, sign-in or advertising. We process the data needed to provide forecasts, optional notifications and purchases. If you enable alerts, our server stores a push token and resort preferences. Optional usage events are aggregated into daily totals without an app-generated user or device identifier. You can switch usage events off in Settings. Apple, Google, Expo and Cloudflare also process information to provide their services under their own policies.

Information stored on your device

Your favourite resorts, their order, your unit settings (°C or °F, km/h or mph, cm or inches), any trip you add and a short-lived cache of weather data are saved on your phone. This information is not sent to us, except as described under powder alerts. Deleting the app, or using Settings › Clear All Data inside the app, removes it.

Weather data requests

To show forecasts, the app requests weather data from Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) through Snowbell's own server (snowbell-api.cavershamdigital.com, hosted on Cloudflare), which caches forecasts so the app is faster. Each request contains only the coordinates and elevation of the resort you are viewing, not your own location. As with any internet request, the servers involved receive your device's IP address to return the response. Our app's aggregate event database does not store IP addresses. Infrastructure providers may process network and security logs under their own policies. Open-Meteo's handling of requests is described in its terms.

Anonymous usage counts

The app tells our server when a few things happen: the app is opened, a resort is viewed or added, the rankings are viewed, a score is shared, the Snowbell Pro screen is shown, or a purchase is started, completed, restored or fails. Each message contains only the event name, the app version, the platform and whether Snowbell Pro is active. There is no device identifier, advertising identifier, account or resort name. The server adds a country code supplied by Cloudflare and keeps daily totals grouped by event, app version, paid-access state and country. No IP address is stored in those totals. You can turn this off at any time in Settings › Share anonymous usage stats.

Powder alerts

Powder alerts are optional and off unless you turn them on in Settings. When they are on, the app sends our server a push notification token (generated by Apple or Google and by Expo, our notification provider), the list of your favourite resorts and your trip resort, your alert threshold, your snow unit and language, and whether you want the optional Thursday weekend pick. Once a day the server checks tomorrow's forecast for those resorts and, if enough snow is expected, sends a notification through Expo and Apple or Google. The token identifies a notification destination and must be treated as device-related information. Turning alerts off requests deletion from our server; this needs a working network connection. Deleting the app does not immediately notify our server. Registrations are also removed when the notification provider reports that a device is no longer registered. For help removing a registration, contact us.

Widgets and Siri

Snowbell's widgets and Siri shortcut show scores the app has already loaded. This data stays on your phone.

Location

Snowbell does not access your device's location.

Purchases

Snowbell Pro subscriptions and the Trip Pass are sold through the App Store or Google Play. Payment, billing, renewals and refunds are handled by Apple or Google under your Apple ID or Google account. We receive no name, email address or payment card details. The app asks the store on your device whether Snowbell Pro is active and remembers the answer locally so Pro features work offline. Manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple ID settings or in Google Play under Subscriptions.

Children

Snowbell is a weather-planning app, not a service designed specifically for children. We do not ask for a name, date of birth or account. The operational data described above may still be processed when the app is used.

Your rights

You can turn off optional usage events and request deletion of an alert registration through the app. Contact us about access, correction, deletion or other applicable data rights. We may need information that lets us locate a registration; do not send payment details or passwords. Aggregate totals do not contain an app-generated identifier that lets us retrieve your individual past events. You may also raise a concern with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
